Play 1-2 more and/or do side quests and you realize - there's nothing else there, only filler. So yes - play one AC game and don't spend too much time on side quests, and it is AMAZING. There's no really unique levels, no unique sneaking mechanics, no unique fighting mechanics, nothing. Climb a tower, fight a bandit camp, follow this guy (older games). All AC games have like a handful of gameplay mechanics only, with almost zero variation. 90-95 % of quests (even discounting automatically generated ones) are boring, samey, identical, copy-pasted. Inside the games, everything is empty and soulless. The core gameplay loop, towers, boring fetch quests, combat, is all identical (the only major change was before Origins). The changes and innovations that do happen mostly feel tacked on.

Most AC games are, for the most part, identical in terms of gameplay (that is, all older AC games and the three newer ones, respectively). But the biggest problem is that their games are repetitions of repetitions, filled with bloat and emptiness. Their stories are mostly fairly lackluster. They do not come close to fulfilling the promise they make. They have such stunning, beautifully crafted worlds, historical cities, breathtaking landscapes.Īnd yet. Disappointing when comparing what IS to what COULD have been.Īs you rightfully point out, some aspects of AC games are absolutely amazing. I think Assassin's Creed is perhaps the most disappointing franchise of AAA games, overall. Look i am not saying that every business decision of theirs is the best one they make, but we gotta admit they do make some of the best games that are out there consistently. Īnd their work on steep and riders republic is in many ways what you get when you put a lot of talented people to work on a basically ignored genre by the masses of industry.Īnd all this is in this decade there previous decade was similarly impressive. įar cry games follow the basic ubisoft formula and well it works games are actually pretty fun to play and even while being only marginally improved each game is still very impressive from many stand points. i mean if same quality of game was released by any other developer people would lose their minds.

heck you may not even like assassins creed but you have to admit the way these games represent historical eras, the art they use and how technically impressive these games are from animations to basic mechanics clearly shows the love of developers for their game. It got me thinking that every assassins creed game ( the main versions of it not spinoffs for other consoles) is actually great. i just recently finished assassins creed syndicate and this one was supposed to be the weakest. Ubisoft gets a lot of flak(and rightly so) for a lot of its business decisions but man, are their games good.
